Aunty Di Baldock

Aunty in Residence

Di Baldock identifies as a Tasmanian Aboriginal woman. Raised in a blended family, she grew up without knowing her cultural history until her late 40s. This discovery sparked a deep journey into her ancestral roots, leading her to uncover her connection to the Trawlwoolway Nation from the Northeast Coast of Tasmania.

Di has dedicated approximately 27 years to working within the Aboriginal community sector. Throughout this time, she has played a pivotal role in securing significant Commonwealth funding to support a wide range of programs across Tasmania.

Her passion lies in justice policy and improving health outcomes for Aboriginal people nationwide. Di represents Tasmania through her leadership role in the Justice Reinvestment National Alliance and currently serves as an Independent Expert Panel Member on the Commission of Inquiry.

As a foster carer, Di is committed to ensuring that all children—regardless of cultural background—are safe, supported, and nurtured while in Out-of-Home Care. She is equally devoted to passing on cultural knowledge to younger generations, empowering them to create meaningful change within their communities.

Di believes deeply in the importance of sharing ancestral knowledge to help all people understand the historical trauma carried by Aboriginal people and their communities. She continues to invest in lifelong learning and the preservation and transmission of cultural knowledge for future generations.
